It's Monday! What Are You Reading? (09.10.2012)

It's Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Sheila from Book Journey and Kellee and Jenn from Teach Mentor Texts. It invites people to share the books they read/reviewed the past week and also to share what books they are currently reading/or plan to read this coming week.

Hey, it's my third time to join! I am really enjoying this meme.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis StevensonThe Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde dramatically brings to life a science fiction case study of the nature of good and evil and the duality that can exist within one person.

-this story is the first ever book that I finished as an audio book. I listened to it in places/situations where reading a book presents a bit of a challenge (mostly when I'm commuting to/from work). It was a nice experience I must say. I decided from then on to get through my list of classics through this way.

Taking Shots (Assassins #1) by Toni Aleo Elli Fisher has never thought she was good enough. Let it be her job, her weight, her love life, nothing, she was convinced she couldn’t do anything right. She had walked through life for the past six years in a daze, never thinking that life could be good again after the abuse she endured from her ex boyfriend. She is lonely, sad, and depressed, that is until she meets Shea Adler. After doing a promotional shoot for the NHL team, the Nashville Assassins, she meets the hunky hockey player who shoots a puck, shattering her world. Shea Adler was tired of the life he was living outside of the rink. The girls, the money blowing, the drinking, everything had to stop and it all did when he met Eleanor Fisher. He had never met anyone like her. She is feisty, witty, shy, and simply gorgeous. When he laid eyes on her, it was as if he was taking the hardest hit of his life into the boards, and he had to have her. Elli is a little skeptical of Shea, but he knows that they were meant to be together, and he needed her in his life. But Elli just doesn’t understand what Shea could see in her. She is overweight, loud, and not even that pretty, so why would someone so gorgeous and so amazing want to be with her? It seemed that no matter how hard she tried to shake Shea off, he wasn’t going anywhere, and for the first time Elli didn’t feel alone. But could Elli throw her insecurities out the window and love Shea with everything inside of her? Or will she let a past relationship, and her family ruin any chance of her being happy? Would Elli miss her shot at love?

-saw it on GR and the ratings are quite high so I thought I'd give it a try. However, I was sort of disappointed. But maybe that's because I expected too much. Still a good story though.

Backstage Pass (Sinners on Tour #1) by Olivia CunningFive stunning guys, one hot woman, and a feverish romance... For him, life is all music and no play... When Brian Sinclair, lead songwriter and guitarist of the hottest metal band on the scene, loses his creative spark, it will take nights of downright sinful passion to release his pent-up genius... She's the one to call the tune... When sexy psychologist Myrna Evans goes on tour with the Sinners, every boy in the band tries to seduce her. But Brian is the only one she wants to get her hands on... Then the two lovers' wildly shocking behavior sparks the whole band to new heights of glory...and sin...

Rock Hard (Sinners on Tour #2) by Olivia CunningAn ultimatum can break your heart....  Every night lead singer, Sed Lionheart whips thousands of women into a frenzy with his voice alone. But the stage is the only place Sed feels any passion since he lost Jessica... If you’re not willing to break all the rules... It shattered her heart, but law student Jessica broke off her engagement to Sed, determined to be successful on her own terms. But no other man can ever hold a candle to Sed... Then a chance meeting and tortuously close quarters lead to uncontrollable flares of passion and rediscovery of their unique penchant for public encounters. Now, in addition to the risk of mutual heartbreak every time they get together, they’re in danger of truly scandalous public exposure...

-a friend told me to read these steamy novels (Sinners on Tour series) and read I did, haha. Not the stories I usually go for but what the heck, I'm an adult already. I shouldn't be ashamed to read these kinds of stories and enjoy them. (And, I did read Fifty Shades and that was worst.)

*Currently Reading/To be Read This Week*

Love Unscripted (Love, #1) by Tina Reber

-This book was on my TBR list last week and yes, I am putting it here again because I was not able to finish it. I had the ebook version and I must say, I was kinda surprised by the length. Serves me right for not checking the number of pages first. Haha.

Pollyanna (Pollyanna #1) by Eleanor H. Porter Pollyanna, an expert at her favorite "Glad Game" of always looking at the bright side in her numerous trials, is one of the most popular and enduring characters in all of children's literature. As Pollyanna arrives in Beldingsville to live with her strict and dutiful maiden aunt, she exclaims, "Oh, Aunt Polly, I don't know how to be glad enough that you let me come to live with you!." And from this point she begins to bring cheer into everybody's life, including the sick, the lonely, and the just plain miserable. All are transformed - until one day when something so terrible happens that even Pollyanna doesn't know how to feel glad anymore. American novelist Eleanor H. Porter's Pollyanna series and "Glad Game" generated a popular phenomenon in its day. The improbable heroine remains popular today and the name Pollyanna is well known to be a stereotype for a person who is characterized by irrepressible optimism and a tendency to find good in everything.

-my second audio book! I like it already. I love the voice of the reader.

Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica RothIn Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue--Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is--she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

-Yes, I am finally committing to myself that I will start reading this book this week. It's been a long time coming.

Trying to Score (Assassins #2) by Toni AleoFallon Parker’s dream was to have her family’s wine company at the top of all wine magazines and to have a cellar of her own. After graduating from college, she has worked hard to make that dream a reality, even if that meant having a nonexistent love life. She had her chance at love and that was a bust, so she put everything into the wine company. After becoming the official sponsor of the Nashville Assassins, Fallon finally feels like everything is falling in place, that is until Lucas Brooks comes back into her life. Lucas Brooks hates his life. He is lonely, he is sober, and he is angry. On the ice, when he’s not in the sin bin, he the leading scorer in the NHL but off the ice, he is a mess. He threw away the most important person in his life, and has regretted it ever since but when Lucas sees Fallon again after being traded to the Assassins; he is bound and determined to get her back. Even if she wants nothing to do with him. The sexual tension between Fallon and Lucas is electrifying as Lucas tries to convince Fallon that he is a changed man. Fallon tries to resist Lucas, but it is so hard when all her body wants is his. But when Lucas finds out that Fallon has been keeping a huge secret from him, the game he is playing stops and penalties are called. With new rules and new players on the ice, will Fallon and Lucas be able to work out their differences and work as a team or will they be left trying to score alone.

-I was underwhelmed by the first book but I don't want to judge the second book because  of that. I'll give it a try too but this time, no expectations.

What books have you guys read this week?

    1. I want to read Trey's too but I'm just a bit skittish with it being a threesome. But I'm so curious about his thoughts on Brian Sinclair because the 2 books have been hinting that he loves Brian. =)

I saw book 1 of her other series, still contemplating if I'll get it.

    1. It's my first time with an audio book too. I just like that I can still get through some books while doing other stuff. I tried it while cleaning, makes me forget that I'm doing a chore. =)

I'm liking Love Unscripted too but you're right, it was just freakin' long. I'm only halfway through. And I always get distracted by other books. =)

  8. The good thing about waiting to read Divergent is that Insurgent is already out. Of course, then you'll have to wait until book 3.

    1. One of the reasons why I've been putting reading Divergent for a long time now. Because the series is not yet finished. I only read The Hunger Games trilogy when all books were already published. Haha. =)

  9. I spot another NZ blog doing this meme how nice. Hope you enjoy Divergent, I loved that and Insurgent. However I can agree its great to read a trilogy when they are all out and then no waiting.
